Every taxable person in the UAE must register for Corporate Tax with the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) through the EmaraTax portal. The process is straightforward once your documents are ready. Here is what to expect.

What you need before you start

  • Valid trade licence (and branch licences, if any)
  • Emirates ID and passport copies of the owners or authorised signatory
  • Memorandum of Association or equivalent
  • Contact details and registered address
  • Financial year end and business activity details

The registration steps

  1. Log in to EmaraTax (or create an account using UAE Pass or email)
  2. Open the taxable person profile for your business
  3. Select Corporate Tax registration and start a new application
  4. Enter entity details, licence information and ownership
  5. Add the authorised signatory and upload documents
  6. Review and submit, then respond to any FTA queries
  7. Receive your Corporate Tax registration number on approval

How long it takes

A complete application is often processed within about 20 business days, though it can be faster or slower depending on queries. Applying early avoids the AED 10,000 penalty for missing your deadline.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Using an expired licence or mismatched trade name
  • Missing or low-quality document uploads
  • Choosing the wrong financial year
  • Assuming free zone companies are exempt — they must register too

If you would rather not deal with the portal, a tax agent can register on your behalf and handle any FTA questions.
